The Cámara de Arena, Piedra y Navegación Fluvial del Litoral (Chamber of Sand, Stone and Fluvial Navigation of the Litoral) filed a legal action before the National Ministry of Labor. They consider that the measure of the maritime unions constitutes an unfair practice since it breaches an agreement signed in June last year.

This Thursday, the Cámara de Arena, Piedra y Navegación Fluvial del Litoral (Chamber of Sand, Stone and River Navigation of the Litoral) requested the National Labor Ministry the compulsory conciliation to the strike that has been affecting the activity for 19 days. They consider that the measure of the maritime unions constitutes an unfair practice since, according to the company, it does not comply with an agreement signed in June last year.

“We come to formally denounce what is already known to the Ministry, that is, that as of Tuesday, January 23, the Maritime Unions: Center of Skippers and Fluvial Officers, Union of Naval Conductors, and Union of United Maritime Workers arranged direct action measures for an indefinite period throughout the sector of representation of our Chamber, that is, from Baradero to the northern border of our country”, states the presentation signed by Dr. Veronica Reynoso.

According to the Chamber, the measure “in addition to being arbitrary, unjustified and illegal, has violated what was expressly agreed by the union entities with the Chamber in the agreement signed on June 5, 2023”.

Said agreement, attached to the presentation, determines that the aforementioned union entities expressly undertook not to take direct action for any reason until February 28, 2024.

“It was also expressly agreed that the non-compliance with the obligations assumed in said act were considered an unfair practice that would entitle my principal to request the Ministry of Labor to order the immediate lifting of the measure. By virtue of the above, we request the Ministry to order the union entities to immediately lift the direct action measures, under penalty of applying the corresponding sanctions”, warned the institution through its legal representative.
